Goals
Goal of the ISE Shared
Software Infrastructure Hub (SSI Hub) is to facilitate
member colleges and universities in introducing latest leading software
knowledge into both undergraduate and graduate classrooms by
sharing a common Internet based infrastructure built by ISE. Industrial sponsors support
ISE in
building a heavy-duty infrastructure. ISE will provide infrastructure to every
higher education institute that is
interested in equipping their students with latest software
knowledge.
SSI Hub has been initiated and
further expanded with the support of industrial sponsors including
Avnet, IBM and Intel. Starting from the Fall of 2005, a number of
universities has been invited to participate in the beta test. These member
universities, both provide content to the SSI Hub and use SSI Hub services.
Currently, a board of representatives from the member universities
operate and provide direction to SSI Hub.
Following is the list of
universities and community colleges as of March 2007.
Universities
Colleges
During the beta test, each
member university uses the SSIP to support student team software
projects and/or contribute content to the SSI-HUB. New software development
tools and advanced application area solution packages will be supported
by SSIP. Sponsors will advise students on projects and employment
opportunities. Additional member universities and sponsors will be
recruited to expand the program to a larger extent.
Fall
2006 and Beyond. SSIP will constantly monitor the services
provided, to improve the program further. SSIP will
work with industry and the university community to make more advanced
software knowledge available to students. Graduate degrees will be
encouraged that make use of member university graduate courses via distance
learning technology. Programs leading to software engineering and
project management certification will be encouraged. Students employed
by industry will be able to take courses offered by member universities without
being physically present.
