Sessions (The three sessions Session-1, Session-2, Session-3 will run in parallel)

8:30 AM

Session 1

Tutorial-1 (Full Day): Using Rational ClearCase as a configuration management tool in the classroom - This will be a hands on workshop where participants will learn how to configure ClearCase for various classroom settings - early sequence programming courses, individual projects courses, team projects course, software engineering courses, etc.  The objective for this workshop will be to create material for SSI that can be used remotely in the future.  Derrick Swinarsky of Rational will provide ClearCase expertise, and lead the workshop.  Participants would provide the course scenario requirements, and would then configure ClearCase for those requirements.  The Rational Software Development tool will be used to test the configuration and explore the student experience. The workshop will be conducted using a prepared Windows based VMWare image.  Participants can take home the DVD used for the workshop.  Work will be done on either individual laptop computers, or Lab workstations.

Derrick Swinarsky, IBM Rational

SIC 307

Session 2

Tutorial-2 (Half Day): Creating and using an Open Source software development stack in the classroom  - This will be a hands on workshop where participants will learn to create a development environment for students using all open source software.  Participants will work from a Linux VMWare image, and install the open source tools, and then use the tools in some simple exercises.  Participants will also gain an understanding of how pre-configured VMWare images can be used as a student development environment.  DVDs of the image will be provided, and participants can take the DVDs home.  The workshop can be done on personal laptops, or Lab workstations.

Neumont’s Educational Model (1 Hour) - Neumont University has successfully employed a project-based, experiential instructional approach to educate students to become software developers who are highly sought after by industry. Neumont graduated its first students in 2006; already placement rates and
salaries far surpass national averages for new computer science grads. In this session, you will learn about Neumont's instructional approach, curriculum, and projects with industry partners.
